The spectrum of complaints that can be treated with NIS is very vast. Using NIS your practitioner is looking to identify the ‘underlying reason’ behind your symptom. The underlying reason could be physiological, pathological, chemical or emotional. Remember...because NIS is assessing and addressing the optimum function of all body systems, there are few things that will be excluded.
The following is a broad guideline only of the types of complaints that can be treated using NIS:
- Structural (joint, tendon, ligament, muscle & spinal pain/restriction. Nerve entrapment)
- Trauma/accident associated (closed head injury, paralysis)
- Learning & behavioural difficulties in adults & children (ADD/ADHD/Dyslexia, memory recall, concentration, co-ordination, reading, speech, frustration/self-esteem)
- Pathological & all issues relating to the immune system. (Viral, bacterial, fungal, protozoa)
- Fertility & miscarriage (both male and female)
- Hormonal (both male and female)
- Mental & emotional disorders (depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, panic attacks, bi-polar disorder)
- Skin disorders (eczema, psoriasis, acne)
- Digestive System resulting in sinus & mucous issues
- Allergies (both food and chemical toxicity, hayfever)
- Insomnia & poor sleeping patterns
- Heart and Cholesterol (blood pressure, venous & arterial supply)
- Chronic Fatigue/ Fybromyalgia
- Poor organ function (bowel, liver, bladder, etc.)
- Stress-related illnesses
- Respiratory (asthma)
- Emotional impact on any aspect of physiology
Firstly, it is important to understand how NIS views labels.
What is a label?
It is the name often given to a ‘group of symptoms’. The human body is capable of 600,000 different symptoms. Imagine how many ways you can group these different 600,000 symptoms together?
So why not treat just the label?
Sometimes a ‘group of symptoms’ are not labelled correctly, or individual ones may be overlooked. With NIS the guess work is removed, as there is no need to label anything. Under ONE umbrella NIS is a systematic means of evaluating all the underlying issues that could lead to one or more of those 600,000 symptoms.
By evaluating ALL the body systems that make up physiological function collectively – for each individual - real causes can be addressed and sustainable result achieved. With NIS everything is accessed for YOU the individual. It is very possible that 2 patients presenting with the same ‘labelled’ complaint will have quite different causal factors and treatment requirements. Everyone's individual make-up is different and that is what makes an NIS treatment unique.
Take allergies for example: ‘Allergy’ can be a label given to a ‘group of symptoms’. By following the same series of protocols, the practitioner could find:
- Patient 1: an emotional issue
- Patient 2: a pathological issue
- Patient 3: a chemical issue
So rather than taking the one approach treating ALL allergy patients in the same way, with NIS the practitioner is able to take a ‘closer look’ at what is happening for that individual, and treat accordingly.
Muscles in the body should at all times be able to resist a given force. This is normal when integrity of the sensory-motor loop exists. NIS employs a series of sequential and prioritised steps to determine congruence between the brain and certain neurological centres. These centres may be derived from cortical, spinal, visceral and glandular circuits. Some centres are activated with patient participation. If neurological confusion dominates, the information referred via the sensory-motor loop will produce gross muscle weakness of any muscle elected for testing. The post central gyrus is linked to restore appropriate control of the sensory-motor loop, giving back control to the testing muscle. In doing so normal neurological activity and homeostatic mechanisms are restored to the centres being assessed.
Your BRAIN has more knowledge about what is going on in YOUR body than anyone (including your doctor). Using the NIS system, your practitioner can now gain direct access to this information. This is the ONLY way to start identifying and treating underlying causes – that lead to symptoms.
Act on what the practitioner thinks may be wrong with you based on your symptoms.
Your brain takes charge and makes the required corrections – safely and naturally. Your optimum function can never be achieved unless the brain is in charge.
The practitioner will do something directly to the body to create change. (I.e. manipulation, drugs)
Looks at all parts of body function, and how they work together. This is vital to establish REAL causes.
Treat body systems individually
The human body is born with maximum tolerances. These differ from person to person. One principle of neurophysiology is - the brain operates within a set of parameters, dictated by the unique DNA of each of us. When all body systems function within our individual ‘template’ of parameters we have great health.
From time to time stresses cause our individual tolerances to be exceeded. They can be physical, pathological, chemical or emotional. This is when the body will start to show symptoms of pain and/or illness. An exceeded threshold may be thought of as a broken circuit. The brain is no longer in full ‘communication’ with certain facets of function.
NIS involves a prioritised set of treatment protocols that evaluate the neurological circuitry and the facets of body function they represent. This system, in simple terms could be thought of like a list of ‘checks’ similar to one a mechanic would use when you put your car in for a service. These protocols evaluate all the causes that may have translated themselves to symptoms.
NIS is unique. The practitioner is a facilitator in the feeding of data to and from the brain. To find out which areas of body function the brain is not fully controlling, a muscle test is used. A muscle test is a proven and established method of determining whether the brain is in full ‘communication’ with body function. The muscle-test acts as a feedback indicator to determine any circuit that has broken down.
At each visit the goal is to determine and address what aspects of your body function the brain is not fully controlling. The approach is very non-invasive, stress and pain-free. This makes an NIS treatment suitable for the newborn baby through to the very aged, and those that are very sick or injured.
Care with NIS is tailor-made for you. Any changes made to your physiological function are instructed by the brain. The practitioner is just the facilitator. This makes NIS one of the safest healthcare options available. Utilizing the brain to diagnose and correct your complaint will expose you to its profound ability to restore your body to its potential. Only your brain holds the key to your optimum health.
Your treatment time will depend on your NIS practitioner, and how they have structured their practice to integrate NIS. Some practitioners will take extended appointment times and run through all the protocol steps in the NIS system in one visit. Some will have an allocated time slot. They will work through the first half of the system, and on your next visit pick up where they left off. When you call to make an appointment with your local practitioner, make sure you ask how long the treatment will take.
This can depend on a number of factors including…
- How long you have had the complaint (sometimes even unknowingly)
- The severity of the complaint (This can vary greatly from person to person.
Remember two patients can have the same ‘labelled’ complaint, e.g. allergies, but have quite different symptom patterns and severity). Your NIS practitioner is looking to identify the ‘underlying’ reason for your complaint. This may take a few treatments to uncover, as the brain may identify other areas of dysfunction that need addressing first – before revealing the deeper causal issues.
This doesn’t mean that nothing happened following your treatment. Quite the opposite. The brain is taking steps to immediately to start the process of returning the areas of dysfunction that have been treated, back to ‘normal’ However there is a myriad of intricate physiological processes that must take place, some of which take time.
This is all dependent on the nature of your complaint. In some cases you may feel a little tired. This is because the body will be a lot more relaxed. If you are treated for an infection, viral, bacterial, protozoan or fungal one can expect some fatigue for a few days as the body eliminates the infection from the system. It is important to ask your NIS practitioner at your visit what you may expect in the few days following.
From the NIS perspective, visiting other healthcare providers will be neither beneficial nor detrimental to your NIS treatment. As NIS is addressing the underlying causes to complaints, one may no longer require symptomatic relief from other healthcare providers. One should exercise caution if receiving chiropractic (or similar) care where your body may be physically stressed beyond its individual threshold. In cases such as this, it is possible that corrections made during a NIS treatment may be affected.
